COMMENTARY & archiving of 'finishing your symphony'

Helllloo everybody, my name is Markiplier and welcome to this webpage!! I made this webshrine/video player for one specific reason: to house a song called 'Finishing Your Symphony.'

It is a Dream SMP fansong about the death of L'Manburg, originally written and composed by a musician named bakoozla. Their YouTube channel is actually still up (as of writing this) and it still has some videos on it, but it's pretty sparse compared to what I remember it being and this specific song is completely missing from their uploads. If I had to guess when it was originally posted to YouTube, I'd wager it was probably sometime in early February 2021, but that's pretty much just a guess. Timeline-wise, it absolutely has to be sometime after January 6th, 2021 (given that date is mentioned in the video).

I managed to download this song at some point back in 2022 onto my now-broken iPad. Given I was pretty young at the time and didn't know how to download mp3's, I saved it as an mp4. That turned out to be lucky because it means I incidentally preserved the original music video, too! However, I was also incredibly impatient back then, which explains why I downloaded it in a really low video quality (the resolution is 640x360) just so it would download faster. Fortunately, the audio still sounds completely fine to me.

Originally, I only pirated it because I wanted to use it to make an animatic featuring my OCs. I never actually started or finished that project, but I'm glad I held onto the file.

Years later, I realized the song was completely wiped from YouTube. What happened to it--whether it was deleted or unlisted--I have no idea. The only trace left of its existence was a single animatic by another creator (whom I don't know the name of, that I believe is now also lost to time) that only included about 1 minute of the song's total two minute fourty second runtime. I can't even find the track on Soundcloud anymore. Realizing how special what I had was, I uploaded the video to Google Drive in March of 2024... and then promptly forgot about it. For two entire years. Happy birthday to this fucking thing, I guess!

I finally pulled the file back up on June 22, 2026 to show it off to my friends as a weird little piece of digital novelty and nostalgia. (I was thinking about the Dream SMP a lot at the time, for some odd reason.) Since I've never handled lost media before (and feeling like I should be very careful with it), I asked them for advice on what to do with it. They all told me to upload it to Reddit or archive.org, but i don't have accounts on either of those platforms. So, naturally, I built this webshrine instead, which brings us to today.

A note on the lyrics panel: all of the lyrics displayed here were sourced from a Wattpad chapter by a user named bakukan in their 'fanfic', "Book Of Random Songs." (This is why the grammar is like that, too--I stayed faithful to the capitalization and punctuation of the chapter, but I put [instrumental and sample transcriptions] in brackets.) Obviously, the lyrics are visible in the video itself, but I'm highlighting the Wattpad post because it stands as one of the (if not THE) last surviving records of this song's existence, and it made the transcription process a million times easier to have an extra frame of reference to go off of. I honestly wish I could download that entire webpage as a backup PDF, but Wattpad can be incredibly finicky and I don't know how to hack into it to extract the data. I do have an embed for the page right here though, provided by the Wattpad page itself:

I would also like to give a quick shout-out to the Dream Team Fandom Wiki and its contributors. It made transcribing the audio samples in the track a lot easier. I wasn't the biggest Dream SMP fan,

If you are curious about the technical side, I uploaded the video's metadata to FileGarden here. To be honest, looking at it doesn't really tell me much... probably because I don't know jack shit about how video metadata actually works.

If anyone visiting this site happens to know anything about this song that I don't by any chance, please don't hesitate to reach out and let me know! I'm the only person I know who remembers this song even existing, let alone the details about it, so it would be incredibly appreciated.

I know the song itself is very amateur, but it honestly means a lot to me. It's weirdly soothing to listen to, despite the gruesome lyrics. Thank you for stopping by and listening!

[slow, waltzing acoustic guitar intro]

[humming]

I know my place,

and you should've known yours.

Remember where you stand.

Don't forget that I'm the one in command

Can't you see?

It was never meant to be..

[acoustic guitar strumming]

[vocalizing and harmonies]

In my possession, is control over your nation and your pride.

(Idiot. Buffoon. You're just nothing but a fool.)

Lesson after lesson, you just never seem to learn from my lies.

(Go ahead, ask yourself,)

("What kind of president am I?")

I'll watch you choke on your tears as you struggle to say your goodbyes

while doomsday approaches

And greets your nation with disaster on your side.

[simple piano melody, quiet guitar strumming, breathing]

Breathe in all the fresh air before ashes seep into your sky.

[piano continues, strumming gets louder]

[humming]

And I'll finish your symphony...

Accept fate and give into what's meant to be...

[(voice samples begin) Wilbur; "The thing that built this nation for doesn't exist anymore!"]

[Eret; "Down with the revolution, boys..."]

[Technoblade; "You never thought of me as a friend, Tommy, you just used me from the start!"]

[Wilbur; "My unfinished symphony, forever unfinished!"]

[Technoblade; "I am a person!"]

[Dream; "I wanna see white flags! White flags, outside your base, by tomorrow, at dawn, or you are dead!"]

[(overlapping, then solo) Tommy; "I'm waiting for the discs! The discs were worth more than you ever were!"]

[bass, then simple piano melody]

[humming]

[static, wind rustling]

[all sound abruptly stops, static crackle]
